The history of Visit Nepal year dates back to 1998 when Late King Birendra Shah. The campaign was very successful and gave a better recognition of Nepal for tourism among the international community. Since then, the numbers of tourists in Nepal have increased rapidly. The late government did the branding of Visit Nepal 98 quite well by printing notes and coins with the tag.

Similarly , the present government of Nepal, announced 2020 as the tourism year in Nepal. The campaign is a very massive campaign. Various tourism related festivals and programs are organized through out the year. The campaign has officially been started from the 1st day of 2020 following the inauguration ceremony.

The main motives of the campaign (but not limited to) are:-
  •  To give Nepal a recognition of unique tourist destination in the world.
  •  To shout among the world that Nepal is a safe place to travel.
  •  To wipe out the image of Earthquake of 2015.
  •  To make the tourism sector the backbone of nation's economy.
  •  To organize tourism related programs and festivals to give tourists a 'Lifetime Experiences' as a return for visiting Nepal.
The entire campaign is managed by tourism board and government of Nepal and is supported by other agencies and organizations to make the campaign successful.

Talking about Nepal, it lies on the lap of Himalayas between India and China. Being sandwiched between two large economies of the world, it lacks the sea route and is a landlocked country. The nearest sea port to Nepal is Bay of Bengal which is very far away from Nepal. So, Nepal experiences hard times to conduct trade with the rest of the world. Hence, Nepal has never been successful in trade and lies on the list of developing nations.

The major income possibilities for Nepal are recognized as tourism and hydropower sector. The hydropower sector is flourishing well and now its time for tourism. Various small countries like Nepal have developed them into the form of the best tourist attractions in the world like Singapore..
Due to the frequent changes in the government due to non-stable government and frequent system reforms, Nepal hadn't any time to brand Nepal but after a long time, Nepal has a stable democratic government. So, this is the best time to conduct Visit Nepal campaign.
